Berhampur, Sept 25 (LocalWire): Over one-tenth of the people of Ganjam have been tested for COVID-19, even as the district crossed its milestone of over 4 lakh sample tests on Friday.
The total population of the district is around 40 lakhs.
COVID-19 test has been conducted for 4,05,085 persons in the district so far. The tests include both antigen and RT-PCR.
“I think the number of Ganjam’s cumulative COVID-19 tests might be higher than any other district in the country,” said district collector, Vijay Amruta Kulange.
“Sample collection for COVID testing has been ramped up by holding village level camps. Even though the positivity rate is declining in the district, sample collection and testing is going on intensively in the district,” said the collector.
“Creating awareness among people regarding the importance of testing and motivating them to come forward voluntarily for testing was one of the aspects of the week long COVID week awareness driver which began on Thursday,” he stated.
“Early testing helps doctors by giving them time for treatment in order to save as many lives as possible,” said Sunil Kotta, a private doctor.
Meanwhile, the district’s total positive cases increased to 19,934 with detection of 63 new cases today.
