Berhampur, Jan 3 (LocalWire) The Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) will select 3000 youth for its nano unicorn programme in 2019-20.
In an effort to develop entrepreneurs, OSDA has launched the nano unicorn programme.
Under the programme, youth with exceptional entrepreneurial ideas are provided with a capital of Rs. 1 lakh to start their ventures.
“We have selected 100 such youth in 2017-18 and most of them became successful in their start-up businesses. We have decided to select 1000 and 3000 such youths in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively,” said OSDA chairman Subroto Bagchi here on Thursday.
Bagchi said the programme was launched to build up nano-unicorns in the state.
Bagchi was addressing a seminar on “Skilled in Odisha from nano unicorns to dream unicorns”, organized by the Odisha public e-library, here.
“What Odisha needs today are nano unicorns – small people who are skilled and start small businesses and within 12-18 months generate employment for one to three people each,” he said.
Students of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Polytechnics, who provide skill development training, would provide assistance in the programme.
The selected students were asked to write their “dream-sheet”, a page on what they would love to do if they had access to the capital amount, and present it to a panel.
Those who are selected will go through a week-long mini MBA, where successful small entrepreneurs will teach and mentor them on topics ranging from marketing, accounting etc, said Bagchi.
At the end of the mini MBA, each youth will be given a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to start their business, which is interest-free if returned within a year, he added.
