Berhampur, December 21 (LocalWire): The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) has announced that private and institutional donors can now avail tax rebates on donations made to it under Section 80G of the Income Tax act.
The OSDMA also announced that it is the first state-run disaster management agency in the country to provide tax exemption to its donors.
“The tax exemption will lead to further mobilisation of funds and will bolster the infrastructure mechanism of the organisation in a big way,” OSDMA special relief commissioner and managing director Pradeep Kumar Jena said.
“The tax relief will definitely enhance the private sectors’ donation. It is great news for OSDMA that was established after 1999 cyclone had ravaged the state. The organisation has contributed immensely towards making the state disaster-resilient within a span of 20 years of its existence,” he said.
Section 80 G of the IT Act allows donations made to specified funds and charitable institutions as a deduction from gross total income before arriving at taxable income.
Set up as an autonomous body by the Government of Odisha, the OSDMA serves as a nodal agency for disaster reconstruction works, coordinates with the line departments involved in reconstruction and coordinates with other disaster control stakeholders.
