Balasore, December 5 (LocalWire): The Oupada police here busted a gang of four that used to steal tractors and dispose of them at different districts to avoid being detected.
The police have recovered four tractors from different districts based on the information provided by those arrested.
Police had initially nabbed Shantijyoti Singh (26) of village Khuntaposhi in Mayurbhanj while investigating the case of a tractor theft in Oupada.
During interrogation, Singh who was the kingpin of the syndicate led the police to the rounding up of three other accomplices.
The other accused have been identified as Ranjan Mahanta (34) of village Adipur under Ruruan police station limits, Ramakantapatra (39) of village Bhusugaon in Keonjhar, and Jayant Mahanta of village Maheswarpur under Champua police station limits.
According to Oupada police station the officer-in-charge Prasant Jena, the racket was operational in Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Anugul, and Balasore, and hence there could be more seizures and arrests in the days to come.
While the police recovered one tractor from the Thakurmunda area, it recovered the second tractor from the Jashipur area.
The police further seized a tractor that the gang had kept in Champua police station area in Keonjhar and another in Angul district.
