Jagatsinghpur, Jan 7 (LocalWire) Alleging corruption against the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan (OSAA), a state-level network of civil society groups and RTI activists, said time has come to oust the Naveen Patnaik government in the forthcoming elections.
The OSAA said agriculture and panchyatraj minister Pradeep Maharathy’s resignation over his remarks on the Pipili gangrape and murder incident was not just under the pressure of opposition, but a punishment by Lord Jagannath.
The organization held a public meeting – Maha Samabesh – against corruption, rape, murder and scams under the present state government, at Balikuda that was attended by political party leaders, RTI activists, lawyers and educationists.
Paradip MLA Damodar Rout, journalist-cum-Congress leader Satya Prakash Nayak, RTI activist Pradip Pradhan and lawyer Sudhir Mohanty attended the event and targeted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik calling him the “main villain” of all corruptions in the state.
Reacting on Maharathy’s resignation, they said hooliganism is prevailing in the state.
“Can the state government reply on the Pipili gang rape case and Kunduli suicide? The government is only shedding crocodile tears for women. There is no respect for women and that is evident from the rise of torture, rape and murder in Odisha,” the OSAA said.
Addressing to gathering, Rout slammed Patnaik for his involvement in corruption and different scams.
“People of Odisha now want to be relieved of the two-decade-long corruption and misrule of the BJD government.
The dream of former chief minister late Biju Babu (Patnaik) has been completely ignored by his son Naveen Patnaik. So,I have vowed to fulfill the dreams of Biju Babu,” said Rout.
He criticized the state government for implementing KALIA and PETHA schemes for misleading farmers and general public.
“These schemes are aimed to woo voters. But it is only a financial burden on the state economy,” said Rout.
He further alleged Balikuda Erasama MLA Prasant Muduli and deputy chairman, state planning board Bishnu Das are looting the government money in the name of different projects like construction of roads, digging of ponds and other projects.
Meanwhile, Nayak criticized the BJD government and said: ” Maharathy’s resignation is a punishment by Lord Jagnnath for keeping him fasting recently without performing rituals.”
Pertinently, rituals at Puri Srimandir were recently delayed by 12 hours after security personnel had a face-off with the servitors over entry of two devotees in the temple.
Pradhan highlighted that RTI activists in Odisha are facing “harassment, institution of false cases against them, threats to family members”.
“Our state, under Naveen Patnaik regime, has witnessed huge corruption, irregularities and loot of crores of rupees from state exchequer by BJD leaders, officials, and contractors.”
“Vested groups such as government officials, BJD leaders, on apprehensions of being exposed, allegedly attack and threaten activists to withdraw RTI applications and also influence them with monetary benefits,” he said.
