Berhampur, December 19 (LocalWire): As many as 13 persons, including two minors, have been arrested by the police on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 36-year old man at Burapalli in Ganjam district’s Tarsingi police station limits.
The accused persons had attacked Hadia Nayak of the same village on 16 December seriously injuring him.
The family members of the Nayak recovered him from a farm field and took him to the sub-divisional hospital, Bhanjanagara.
Later, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a serious condition where he succumbed to injuries on 18 December, the police said.
On getting the news of his death, all accused persons left the village and went into hiding.
“We got some reliable information about their presence in the village and launched to arrest the accused persons,” Tarsingi police station said officer-in-charge Sabyasachi Malla said, adding that the police has registered a murder case against the accused persons following the complaints of his wife Ranjita Nayak and is further investigating the matter.
The police, however, said that the deceased had a criminal background and he had allegedly threatened and abused a local, which angered the villagers who attacked and thrashed him.
