Bhubaneswar, December 19 (LocalWire): Over 70 per cent of people who lost their lives in road accidents in Odisha were in the prime of their youth.
According to the Committee on Road Safety constituted by the Supreme Court, as many as 38,204 people were killed in road accidents in the state during the last decade.
“Of the deceased persons, 26,742 were either teenagers or youths below the 30 year age groups,” finding by the State Road Safety Council (SRSC) indicates.
The road accidents have claimed a total of 5,315 lives in 2018 while 4,115 people were killed during the nine-month period from 1 January till 30 September this year.
In 2017, the road accident toll was recorded at 4,790, while the number of people who died in road accidents during 2016 was 4,463.
Reports indicate that the fatality rate (death per 100 accidents) in Odisha is 47 as compared to the lower national average of 32.
