Balasore, July 15 (LocalWire): At least 27 cattle were killed and several others injured after a truck ferrying them turned turtle near Rajpath hotel Chowk on the National Highway number 60 under Jaleswar police station jurisdiction in Balasore district.
The tragic death of cattle sparked off tension in the area with cow protection groups and Go Rakshak activists staging a blockade of the busy highway.
Around 100 cattle were being illegally ferried from Bhadrak to Kolkata when the road accident took place.
Police forces have rushed to the spot to restore law and order.
A case has been registered under section 279 (rash driving) 304 (causing death by negligence) and under section 11 and 12 of the prevention of cruelty to animals, the police said.
