Jajpur, Oct 17 (LocalWire): The death of a woman Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) at a private guesthouse at Charabatia village under Haridaspur gram panchayat in Jajpur district on Wednesday has snowballed into a major controversy with family members complaining of foul play and BJP demanding a high-level investigation into the incident.
Sadananda Biswal the father of the deceased filed an FIR in Dharmasala police station today and alleged that his 32-year-old daughter Smitarani Biswal was killed by some miscreants and demanded action.
Sushil Kumar Biswal, the deceased’s husband alleged that his wife did not commit suicide as was being alleged although preliminary investigation by police points to possibility of suicide.
On Wednesday the deceased distributed old-age pension to beneficiaries at Charabatia and Subhadrapur villages.
Later, she went to the private guest house of Rupesh Bhadra, the husband of sarpanch Madhusmita Bhadra to attend a feast. Later, her body was found hanging in one of the rooms of the guest house.
‘My daughter was killed by some people in the guest house and her body was hanged from the ceiling to portray it as a case of suicide.
She was the only woman in the guest house during the feast organized by the husband of the sarpanch,’ her father told media-persons.
Police are interrogating the husband of the sarpanch and others present in the guest house yesterday. After getting the autopsy report we will know the exact cause of her death, said Kedar Sahoo the Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Jajpur.
Meanwhile Sarbaswar Beura, the general secretary of the district unit of BJP, Monalisa Das the president of BJP Mahila Morcha of Dharmasala zone and other BJP leaders demanded a judicial probe into the suspicious death of the woman.
They also alleged that the woman sarpanch is a puppet and her husband Rupesh has been interfering in the gram panchayat.
