Nabarangpur, Dec 5 (LocalWire): Forest officials on Wednesday said they have rescued an Indian Pangolin and arrested two traffickers during a raid in Nabarangpur district.
The arrested were identified as Raysingh Jani and Bhim Jani of Kantasaru village under Maidalpur panchayat in the district.
The accused had captured the pangolin weighing about 13 km from Dangariguda forest. Later, they contacted two wildlife mafias from Chhattisgarh to sell the endangered animal at Rs 5 lakh on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip off, a team of forest officials raided the village when the deal was underway and rescued the pangolin.
While the team managed to nab the two traffickers, the two wildlife mafias managed give a slip.
Notably, pangolins are listed under Schedule 1 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
