Paradip, April 14 (LocalWire): Electioneering has gathered momentum in four Assembly constituencies and Lok Sabha constituencies here where a multi-corner contest is being witnessed between the ruling BJD, BJP and the Congress in all these seats.
Different political party candidates have kick-started their campaign by declaring manifesto, door to door visit, party workers meeting, engagement of their wife and son in the campaign to woo the voters in favour of their respective candidates.
The BJP has already begun canvassing with Madhya Pradesh ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan going door to door to campaign.
The canvassing of BJD and Congress is moving at a sluggish pace due to intra party conflict, defection leaders, non-cooperation and misunderstanding among the office-bearers and workers.
Congress MLA candidate Bapi Sarkhel’s started his election campaign after offering special prayers at Loknath Temple in Paradip yesterday. Sarkhel and MP candidate Pratima Mallick promised voters they would make all-out efforts for the holistic development of Paradip port.
Sarkhel also released his election manifesto and promised permanent employment opportunities to displaced families and people who have lost their land due to land acquisition if he won the seat.
He also promised to provide irrigation water to cultivable lands, set up a food-processing plant, construct cold storage, establish ITI and diploma college, nursing college in Paradip, formation of a committee to regulate pollution in each block and super speciality hospitals.
His wife Moni Deepa Sarkhel is also campaigning and interacting with women groups in village and panchyat level to strengthen the women votes in grass root level of 36 panchyats of Paradip Assembly constituency.
Sambit Routray’s wife Geetanjali Routray is also campaigning and appealed to voters of ward no 1 and 8 of Paradip municipality to vote in favour of her husband. Similarly, BJP MLA candidate Sampad Swain’s wife Sushrita Swain accompanied BJP women leaders and intensified election campaign in favour of her husband.
So there is also a competition between the wives of these three political party candidates to woo the voters in favour of their respective husbands.
