Jagatsinghpur, October 13 (Local Wire) Heavy rainfall continued in most parts of Paradip and other areas of Jagatsinghpur district for the third straight day on Friday affecting normal life.
One woman was seriously injured due to the collapse of the wall while houses of many persons in Balikuda area have also damaged.
Heavy rains led to inundation of low-lying areas at several places.
Thousands of hectors of stranded paddy crop in different areas of Erasama and Balikuda have been submerged.
The report said that thatched houses of five families including Sulochana Sahoo, Gitanjali Nayak and another one of Balikuda area have been damaged due to the entry of rainwater.
One woman Kabita Nayak hailing from Pokhariapada has been seriously injured due to the collapse of the house because electric pole fell on her thatched house. She has been shifted to SCB medical college and hospital, Cuttack for treatment.
Normal life has been completely paralyzed in Paradip and other areas of Jagatsinghpur district.
Woes of people of coastal villages in Erasama, Balikuda areas have been compounded due to the failure of power for two days.
Taking this opportunity, unscrupulous traders are selling kerosene in the black market in which rural people have forced to purchase kerosene in skyrocketing rate.
It is alleged that PDS consumers who are receiving kerosene at the rate of Rs 9 are selling kerosene at the rate of Rs 40 to 50 bringing strong harassment among the people.
