Jagatsinghpur, March 12 (LocalWire): Parents led by the vice chairperson of a school today went on hunger strike in front of the block education office for depriving benefits to students of the weaker section.
Vice chairman Rupendra Mishra of Ideal Public School of Patenigaon under Raghunathpur block said the school management had sent the names of the SC, ST and weaker sections of students to get benefit from the government.
‘The students are liable to get reservation quota, tuition fee of Rs 150 for each student, scholarship worth Rs 1250 for girls and Rs 1500 for boys and other benefits including book and dress materials from the government,’ Mishra said.
He said ‘total 16 students are eligible to get Rs 9600 each for the year 2014-2015 and Rs 9600 each for five students in 2015-2016 and in 2016-2017, Rs 34,000 was sanctioned in favour of four students. Not a single student has yet received any benefit from the department.
The department has also not given the COR for the year of 2017-2018 after fulfilling all requisites.’
The parents refused to budge even after the block education officer, Raghunathpur, Rajshree Sahu, intervened. She clarified that during inquiry it was found that students for the year of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 were not eligible for the benefits. She also said the department refused to show the inquiry report demanded by the agitators to know the reason for depriving the students of their benefits.
