Balasore, December 14 (LocalWire): Parents of Puja Malik who was reported to have committed suicide on 2 November in Hyderabad have alleged that their daughter was killed for dowry by the husband and in-laws.
The parents also appealed to the chief ministers of Odisha and Telangana to help them get justice for their daughter.
The woman, a native of Nampo in Jaleswar was staying in Hyderabad with her husband and 18-month-old son and the parents allege that she was found dead under mysterious circumstances, which raises doubts on their son-in-law’s claim that she committed suicide.
According to the parents Asta Hazra and Sumitra Hazra, they had Puja got married to Samir Malik, a resident of Muchipada in Kolkata area two years ago as per the Hindu tradition and they had also given the articles that were demanded by the groom’s family.
They alleged that after the marriage, the husband and in-laws began to torture her for more dowry.
While she was tortured physically and mentally by the in-laws in the absence of her husband, who was working in Hyderabad, the father-in-law Brundaban Malik also attempted to make physical relations with their daughter, the parents alleged.
In July, however, Puja relocated to Hyderabad along with her husband and their son.
According to the parents, on 2 November, their son-in-law Samir informed them that she had committed suicide by hanging herself in Hyderabad.
However, the parents point out that when they reached Hyderabad they found injury marks on her body which raises suspicion that she was brutally beaten to death and then hanged.
