Bhubaneswar, March 18 (LocalWire): Prasanta Kumar Patnaik, a retired professor of IIT-Bombay now based in Bhubaneswar, has expressed shock at the sudden demise of his ex-student and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, saying it’s a “personal loss” to him.
Parrikar passed away on Sunday in the midst of his fourth term as Goa chief minister. The IIT-Bombay is his alma mater.
During his tenure as Union defense minister, Parrikar had made a surprise visit to his former IIT teacher, who lives in BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar, in June 2016.
After the meeting, he had posted a picture of them together on his twitter handle. Patnaik’s wife Supriya had presented him a Gita.
“It’s a personal loss as he was very close to me. During his five-year programme (at IIT-B), he had taken two theory courses with me, and a whole year of laboratory. He was a disciplined student and a constructive leader,” Patnaik recalls.
The retired teacher also praised his former pupil for his leadership qualities and humble living.
“During his study, he had taken up the issue of mess workers, who used to get paid only for eight months of the year, while other staff members get salaries for 12 months.”
“He has his own means of earning not like other leaders who live with public money,” the professor said.
