Bhubaneswar, Dec 2 (LocalWire): After a long gap, Odisha’s popular street festival ‘Patha Utsav’ was back at capital city Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
The central theme of Sunday’s “Patha Utsav” was hockey as the weekly street event is coinciding with the ongoing Men’s World Cup Hockey.
Over 20,000 early risers hit the streets of Janpath to participate in “Patha Utsav”, which was held from 06:00 am to 10:00 am.
Students from Sports Hostel, Kalinga Stadium displayed their hockey skills on Janpath, as the crowd cheered on.
Local junior hockey team members utilized the stretch for their routine practice and warm up sessions, while others utilized the road for playing football, badminton and roller-skating.
The event also provided free health check-up booths for all, and an exhibition of “khadi’’ (hand-woven natural fiber cloth) products.
Itishri Dixit, a social worker and singer with a long-standing association with Patha Utsav, made a beautiful “Rangoli’’ design on hockey theme on Janpath with her team.
The two stages were set up on each end of Janpath – Master Canteen Square and Ram Mandir Square – for performances by city-based groups, including Ama Kalakara Parivar.
The singers and DJs also promoted the fest through their performances and songs.
Jai Odisha, a group of young social workers, not only organised street hockey, but also played a quiz contest with the visitors, especially kids.
Patha Utsav is the city’s initiative to connect its citizens and neighbourhoods and the response to its re-launch reaffirmed its success.
It is scheduled to take place again on December 9 and 16.
The event that started on January 17, 2016 as Raahgiri with an aim to promote non-motorised transport, was later renamed as Patha Utsav.
It is being jointly organized by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on the stretch between Master Canteen and Ram Mandir.
