officials have intensified patrolling in Chilika to prevent bird poaching ahead of New Year celebrations.
Demand for non-vegetarian iis high on New Year and there would be possible ipoaching of winged visitors from nearby towns.
“The patrolling has been intensified in the lake in the next three days to prevent poaching in the lagoon in view of the New Year,’ said divisional forest officer, Chilika wildlife division Alok Ranjan Hota.
While lat least 19 camps were set up in the lake involving over 90 personnel, police personnel were assisting them in Tangi wildlife range.
Tangi wildlife range was considered as prone to bird poaching.
Wildlife officials arrested 12 persons in seven poaching cases and seized around 80 dead birds and two boats this season so far.
