Berhampur, June 13 (LocalWire): Ganjam district administration has decided to impose a heavy fine on motorcyclists riding without helmets.
The district administration, which strictly implemented the helmet rule since August 2017, till now fined Rs 100. The decision to collect a maximum penalty was taken at the district road safety committee meeting held at Chhatrapur on Wednesday.
District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange presided over the meeting and ordered a maximum penalty from the offenders, said regional transport officer Ganjam, SK Biswal.
The administration has also strictly implemented the ‘No helmet no petrol’ directive and asked all petrol pumps to install CCTV cameras to detect people without helmets.
The CCTV footage would be checked frequently by the transport officers or the police and impose penalty to the offenders though e-challan system.
The Collector also directed the National Highway authorities to install CCTVs in strategic locations to detect the traffic rule violators.
In a pilot basis, they have asked to install CCTV in strategic points of National Highway 16 passing through the district soon,’ the RTO said.
