Bhubaneswar, August 16 (LocalWire): Odisha has seen investments in the petroleum sector to the tune of 41,000 crores in the last 5 years, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said today.
“Vindicating the Prime Minister’s commitment to the development of east India, Odisha has seen massive investments including an expansion of CGD network, LPG pipelines, petrochemicals, refineries, etc.,” the Union Minister said.
“To further accelerate the development of domestic steel sector and make Odisha the nerve centre of Mission Purvodaya in steel, an integrated steel hub is proposed in Odisha which is expected to produce 100 MT of the 300 MT national steel production target,” he added.
Capital investment of more than 5 lakh crores in the envisioned steel hub will enhance economic opportunities, create more than 25 lakh jobs in the region and lead to prosperity of Odisha, he said.
Odisha is poised to become the energy gateway of the east, with massive efforts and investments being directed towards port-led development, petrochemicals, and other downstream industries.
This will help Odisha become the epicentre of India’s overall steel industry, the Minister added.
These come in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech yesterday, in which he said that the growth of India is incomplete without the growth and prosperity of India’s eastern and north-eastern regions.
