Berhampur, December 16 (LocalWire): The Phulbani district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Kandhamal has got new infrastructure facilities to boost medical services in the tribal-dominated area.
The new facilities include a six-bed Palliative Care Unit (PCU) for cancer patients, an integrated laboratory, a laundry unit, and six ambulances.
The new facility was inaugurated by Kandhamal MP Achyut Samant on Sunday.
The enhancement of infrastructure facilities is the pre-condition for upgrading the DHH into a Medical College and Hospital.
The 250-bed hospital has been sanctioned Rs 15 lakh from the chief minister’s fund for the purpose, sources said and Navin Patnaik had announced in October that a medical college will be set up in Phulbani.
The chief minister had also announced that the proposed new medical college and hospital will be set up within the DHH premises and its bed strength will be increased from 236 to 500.
According to the chief district medical officer (CDMO) Kandhamal Rajyashree Patnaik, the PCU will be helpful for treating terminally ill inpatients.
“The newly set up unit will be helpful to the cancer patients in need of a few days of treatment to reduce their pain,” Patnaik stated.
