Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (LocalWire) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the Odisha bus tragedy that killed as many as 10 lives and injured several others.
“Condolences to those who lost their loved ones due to the bus accident in Cuttack, Odisha. May the injured recover at the earliest,” tweeted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
At least 10 people were killed and several others were injured after a bus fell off a bridge into the Mahanadi river in Cuttack, said police on Wednesday.
According to the police, the bus with 30 passengers was travelling from Talcher to Cuttack on Tuesday. It skidded off the Mahanadi bridge near Jagatpur after hitting a buffalo and fell 30 ft below into the river.
The animal was also killed in the incident; its body has been recovered by the police.
Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams, fire personnel and locals rushed to the site immediately and started rescue operations.
Expressing “deep grief” at the accident, Odisha chief minister Navin Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next kin of the deceased and free treatment to the injured.
