Berhampur, May 8 (LocalWire): A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences court today sentenced a 48-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter two years ago.
Deepak Kumar, judge of the special court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000. On default to repay the fine amount, the accused would have to serve another year of rigorous imprisonment, said special public prosecutor Naryan Panda.
The 16-year-old victim from a village under Ganjam district’s Purushottampur police station had complained against her father, a labourer, in 2017, alleging that he raped her on several occasions in the absence of her mother and other family members.
Police arrested her father based on the complaint.
After examining the circumstantial evidence and medical report, the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, Panda said.
The court also directed the government to pay Rs 7 lakh from its special provision to the victim for her future maintenance.
The amount would be paid to the victim through the district legal service authorities, said Panda.
