Berhampur, October 4 (LocalWire): The police have arrested five persons in witchcraft-related violence where a group of people from Gopapur village had assaulted six persons and forced them to eat human excreta.
With this, the total number of arrested persons in the case has gone up to 34.
On Monday night, the police had arrested 29 persons, including 22 women for their involvement in the incident.
More persons will be arrested in this connection as they were involved in the incident, Khallikote police station inspector in-charge Satya Narayan Pradhan said.
According to sources, almost all male members in the village are in hiding fearing police arrest.
The police are patrolling the village and the situation in the village is reported to be under control.
The victims, all men over 60 years, are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and their condition is stated to be stable.
A group of people had attacked the six persons suspecting them of practicing witchcraft in the village and killing at least three women.
The group also alleged that several villagers had fallen ill during the last few days due to their witchcraft.
