Berhampur, Feb 3 (LocalWire):On Monday, the Police arrested four people, including the owner-cum-driver of the fishing boat which capsized in Chilka Lake last Sunday leaving seven passengers on-board injured.
S. K. Das, the Sub- divisional Police Officer, Balugaon, informed LocalWire and said, “The accused have been identified as Sudarshan Jali, the boat owner-cum-driver, Bishekh Jali and Nabaghan Jali, two helpers of the boat and Ashok Jali. All four taken into custody belong to Chandraput.”
The accused were arrested for illegally carrying the passengers in a fishing boat, he added.
Meanwhile, the government has ordered for an administrative probe of the mishap.
This Sunday afternoon, a fishing boat carrying around 20 people capsized in the mid-way of the lake, the reason being the boat carrying 20 people against its capacity of four to five at most.
Moreover, the boat was meant for fishing, and not for carrying people in it.
The boat was carrying the passengers from Kalijai to Barakula when the mishap took place.
While all the passengers were rescued by the local fishermen, seven of them sustained injuries out of which three were seriously injured.
Those critically injured are currently undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The condition of all patients is stated to be stable at present as per the medical sources.
