Berhampur, May 10 (LocalWire): Police arrested a man wanted in several dacoity cases from Narayani Road in Ganjam district today early morning.
The accused from Khajapalli exchanged fire with the police and sustained Injuries on his leg. He was admitted at the sub-divisional hospital, Khallikote and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. His condition is stable, police said.
A country-made pistol, two live cartridge, two crude bombs and a motorbike was seized from his possession, said SDPO, Chhatrapur, Utkal Keshari Das.
Police, who were on lookout for him, cornered him after a tip off. Manoj Swain, the 24-year-old accused along with his associate tried to escape from the spot by hurling bombs and fire at the police party.
Police retaliated and as a result Swain sustains bullet injury, Das said. His accomplice, however, gave police the slip.
‘Four police personnel, including inspector in charge of police, Khallikote police station, Sunil Kumar Behera, and two police constables also sustained injured when Swain hurled bombs at the police. They were discharged after treatment,’ the SDPO said
Police said Swain was involved in at least eight crimes like dacoities and robberies under different police stations in the district.
