Berhampur, August 2 (LocalWire): Police today arrested a person transporting ganja illegally at K Nuagan in Kandhamal district.
Around 72 kg ganja worth over Rs 2 lakh was seized along with the car in which the contraband was being transported, police said, though two other occupants of the car gave them the slip.
The accused, from Baliguda was driving the car when patrolling policemen stopped it, said inspector in charge, K Nuagaon police station Chandramani Singh.
The contraband was being transported from KNuagaon to Bhubaneswar, he added.
With this consignment, police seized over 150 kg ganja from different places of Kandhamal district in the last four days.
While Gochhapada police seized around 50 kg ganja along with a car and arrested its driver on 30 July, Phiringia police seized 35 kg cannabis along with a car at Borebata on 31 July being smuggled from Phiringia to Keoinjhar.
Kandhamal has been identified as the major ganja-growing district in the state while Berhampur is the major transit point of smuggling.
‘Every year, we destroy huge quantities of marijuana, growing illegally in the forests,’ said police.
