Berhampur, January 11 (Localwire): Continuing to crack down on illegal stone blasting in Ganjam district, the local police arrested three persons from the Sishunda hill area under Jagannath Prasad police station limits on Saturday.
The arrested persons were identified as Gopal Regar, Pokar Regar, and Kalu Vir all residents of Paroli from Bhilwara in Rajasthan, police said.
Explosive materials, including 325 gelatin sticks, 26 detonators, two tractors fitted with compressor, drilling machine, livewires, and batteries were seized during the raids, Jagannath Prasad police station inspector-in-charge Jubaraj Swain said.
The police had conducted the raid based on information about the illegal activity in the hill area.
“During the search, they did not show any documents that could prove they had permission for stone blasting in the area,” the police said, adding that they are conducting an inquiry into the matter.
Earlier, the police had arrested at least 50 persons from different areas of the district for illegal stone quarrying and blasting of the stones.
They had also conducted raids at Aska, Buguda, Digapahandi, and Tarsingi police station limits and seized huge quantities of explosive materials.
