Jagatsinghpur, October 1 (LocalWire): The local police have arrested three persons in the Balikuda police limits for running an illegal lottery racket on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Jagatsinghpur SDPO Prakash Chandra Pal along with the inspector-in-charge Rajani Kant Mishra raided the house from where the lottery was being managed.
After getting information about the raid, the miscreant tried to flee from the spot, but the police team chased and nabbed Biswajit Parida, Sachidananada Mohanty, and Chittaranjan Das.
Illegal lottery and gambling business has been growing at an alarming rate in Jagatsinghpur, Tirtol, Naugaon, Kujang, Paradip and other areas of the district causing serious concern to the local people.
While the majority of the illegal trade happens in the slums, small markets and clubs in villages, Illegal lottery, and e-lottery is also becoming common in rural areas affecting the poorer sections of the community in a big way, with some of them becoming professional gamblers.
Sources also revealed that the mafias have been operating Bhutan lottery trade from Madhuri Bazaar of Cuttack Nuagaon National Highway number 55 duping local youths.
This mode of the lottery has been affecting the poorer sections of the society like rickshaw pullers and daily wage-earners.
