Keonjhar, March 26 (LocalWire): Hours after the gruesome murder of Ramachandra Behera, the ex-chairman of Ghasipura block, police on Tuesday detained three people in connection with the case.
Behera was beaten to death by a group of people outside his house at Kundakuta village, some 60 km from here, around 10 pm on Monday.
After the incident, tension rose in the area, and on Tuesday morning, locals kept the body on NH-20 and staged a road blockade, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
The 60-year-old was expected to join BJD today in a function at Ramchandrapur, party sources said.
He was rushed to Anandpur hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the night.
Police handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem.
Anandpur sub-divisional police officer Bidyut Panda said, that “Three persons have been detained in connection with the case, and further investigations are on.”
He added that a personal enmity couldn’t be ruled out yet behind the murder, and police would probe all angles as the victim was planning to join BJD next day.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the area to avoid any untoward law and order situation.
Commenting on the attack, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Patra said that he had met Behera before the incident to discuss about his joining the party. “Some might have done this to create a political issue before election,” he said.
