Berhampur, September 17 (LocalWire): Police on Tuesday arrested two persons from Hadupada Chhaka, near Adapanka under Adava police station limits in Gajapati district on charges of smuggling ganja and seized around 120-kg of contraband worth over Rs 15 lakh from them.
The accused have been identified as Pappu Sah of Mahanagar in Bihar’s Vaishali district and Kanhu Charan Mallick of Kadeyapada, near Mohana.
“The two were waiting for a bus to ship the consignment of marijuana when the police arrested them and seized the contraband,” Gajapati superintendent of police Sarah Sharma said.
The smugglers might have been smuggling the narcotic substance from Adava area to Bihar, via Berhampur, the police stated.
The police had seized around 90-kg ganja near Guluba in the same police station limits a few days back.
However, the accused involved in smuggling the cannabis had fled from the spot after abandoning the substance.
Adava and Mohan areas in the tribal-dominated district are considered as one of the major marijuana producing areas in the state and it is smuggled to various parts of the country with the help of local people.
