In a meeting, he reviewed the situation in five police districts of Berhampur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Boudh and the implementation of Mo Sarkar and 5T initiative.
“Besides the law and order situation, he reviewed the cases related to violence against women, the process of investigation and the rate of conviction, and execution of Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW),” said the DIG (Special Task Force), JN Pankaj.
The DGP also reviewed the activities of the Maoists in the range and the crackdown of ganja smugglings.
Besides the SPs of these four police districts and the DIG (STF), ADG (intelligence) RK Sharma, and DIG Anirudha Singh also attended the day-long review meeting.
The DGP reportedly stressed on the increase of the rate conviction. “The ultimate aim of the DGP’s review is to increase the rate of conviction in the state,” said Pankaj.
According to the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the rate of conviction in the state in 2018 was only 5.7%.
While the Maoist activities in the range is under control since the past few years, the presence of the outlaws of the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Nayagarh-Boudh (KKBN) division of the CPI (Maoists) in the hilly regions of Kandhamal engaging in firing is not.
The latest exchange of fires took place near Sumerbandh under the Phiringia police station and Ladapadara under the Gochhapada police station in Kandhamal on January 18, 2020.
