Berhampur, July 29 (LocalWire): Police today arrested six people from Samarabandh under Tarsingi police station limits and seized huge quantities of explosive materials from them, in their efforts to crackdown illegal blasting in the crusher units of Ganjam district.
The accused were carrying as many as 175 detonators, one quintal of explosives, batteries used for blasting, a compressor-attached tractor and a drill machine, said officer in-charge, Tarsingi police Sabyasachi Malla.
He said they had license from the crusher unit to operate manually without using explosives.
But while checking the unit, police found the explosive materials.
Police said crackdown on illegal stone quarries and operation of crusher units in the district would continue.
Stringent action will be taken against people involved in illegally blasting and possessing explosive materials.
The crackdown on illegal blasting in the district began after two school students of Upper Primary School Magura were injured on 20 July.
The students came across explosive materials which were lying near the school after a stone quarry was blasted.
Earlier, police had arrested five people from Aska for illegally blasting stones and huge quantities of explosive materials were seized from them.
