Berhampur, May 16 (LocalWire): Police detained two people from Khaira village under Ganjam district and questioned them about the group clash on Tuesday night, which claimed the life of a teenager and injured seven others.
‘We are interrogating the duo about the incident,’ said SDPO, Chikiti, Surendra Nath Murmu.
He said most males, who were involved in the incident, had fled after the incident fearing police action. ‘We raided in and around the village to nab the accused,’ he said.
Murmu said they are keeping a strict vigil and have retained the platoon deployed in the village although the situation was under control and there was no tension.
Police said the exact cause of the clash was still not known, even though the enmity between the groups was boiling over the last few months. ‘We are investigating from different angles, including political enmity.
It will take some times to ascertain the cause of the incident,’ the SDPO said.
Villagers said the clash was a fallout between the ruling BJD and opposition BJP and the father of the deceased belonged to the saffron party.
