Jajpur, November 16 (LocalWire): The local police on Saturday recovered several office files, documents and other papers from the locker and almirah of the deceased Panchayat Extension Officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal at the block office at Dharmasala, Panchayat office at Haridasapur and her house at Choramuha in Jajpur district.
The documents were recovered by the police in the presence of the magistrate and Sushil Kumar Biswal, the husband of Smitarani.
The files and documents were handed over to the Block Development Officer (BDO), Dharmasala Tahasildar Saroj Kumar Panda said, adding that the documents will also be verified by the police team.
The death of Smitarani in mysterious conditions at the guest house on 16 October is snowballing into a major political crisis in the state, with the BJP and Congress leaders demanding a CBI inquiry into the matter.
According to sources, the deceased had distributed old-age pension to beneficiaries at Charabatia and Subhadrapur villages and then went to the private guest house owned by Rupesh Bhadra, the husband of the sarpanch of Haridaspur Panchayat Madhusmita Bhadra to attend a feast.
Her body was later found hanging in one of the rooms of the guest house.
While the preliminary investigation by the police indicated at the possibility of suicide, Smitarani’s husband has raised suspicion that it was not a suicide case.
The couple was married for eight years and they have a seven-year-old daughter.
Earlier, the police had arrested Rupesh Bhadra on 19 October for allegedly abetting the suicide of Smitarani.
The district administration also sealed the two-story guest house on 25 October and imposed prohibitory order under CrPC 144 around the guest house, while cordoning off the entire area.
