Jagatsinghpur, March 27 (LocalWire): Police have unearthed a network that supplies illegally manufactured arms from outside the state to several gangs in Jagatsinghpur district to cause mayhem and also create panic among the people before the twin elections in the state.
Police seized several arms and ammunition from different gangs operating in Paradip and other rural areas of the district but are yet to nab the culprit at the end of the supply chain.
Sub inspector Biswajit Gadanayak of Jagatsinghpur seized a revolver from a miscreant from Rayankpatana who had in turn procured it from another accused from Cuttack district. But the leads ended there.
Paradip Lock Police led by Pravash Chandra Sahu seized a pistol and four rounds of cartridges from miscreants while they attempted to commit crimes last week. Police also arrested three men but could not yet reach the supplier of the illegal arms.
In another incident, miscreants fired at a contractor-cum-supplier from Kulia village under Balikuda police limit last week when he didn’t pay heed to their extortion threats. Police are yet to arrest the men.
