Bhubaneswar, March 13 (LocalWire): Police today issued regulations and guidelines regarding public meetings, rallies and road shows to be held by the political parties before elections that will be conducted here on 23 April.
As per the notice from the police commissioner’s office, the political parties have to intimate the police regarding the number of people and vehicles taking part in the road show and the route should not go through crowded markets and medical establishments.
‘Convenience of commuters will be priority. The road show should not cover more than half of the road to ensure free traffic movement. Bursting of fire crackers is also not permitted,’ the police commissioner satyajit mohanty said.
Police said candidates and representatives of political parties need to apply for licence and take permission for rallies from the office of the deputy commissioner of police. The model code of conduct came into effect from 10 March.
Police will soon start a drive to execute NBWs pending against antisocial elements.
‘Police stations have been asked to intensify drive against illegal sell of liquor in the city.
Special squad and quick action teams have also been asked to keep a strict vigil on arms smuggling,’ said a police official.
