Berhampur, November 16 (LocalWire): The police on Friday arrested a 54-year old man, Fayez Ahamad, in connection with running a job racket and cheating 35 people from across the state by promising them employment with the Indian Railways.
Ahamad, who is working as the goods guard in Khurda Railway Division in East Coast Railway, is the fourth person, including a woman, to be arrested in the case.
He was arrested from Jatnai in Khurda district, police said.
Earlier, the police had arrested Niladri Prasad Panda of Golapalli Sahi in Berhampur and Rajat Kumar Mishra of Khurda on 24 September, and Bandita Kumari Behera of Khodasigi in Berhampur on 4 October on charges of running the job racket.
The police, however, suspect the involvement of few more people in the racket and search is on to nab them, Baidyanathpur police station inspector-in-charge SP Das said.
According to the police estimate, the gang has cheated Rs 50 lakh from the aspirants.
So far three persons have lodged a complaint, police sources said.
One of the complainants Jitendra Kumar Prusty and his two friends from Kandhamal district had paid around Rs 12.50 lakh in 2015-16 to the members of the gang to secure a job with the Railways.
However, when the three did not get a job even after three years, they decided to lodge an FIR against them.
The miscreants had set up an office in a house in Golapalli Street, here, in 2015 and had been collecting money in phases from the aspirants, police stated.
