Bhubaneswar, April 8 (LocalWire): Police arrested a 23-year-old man on Sunday for stealing 30 mobile phones worth more than Rs 5 lakh and recovered all but one from his possession.
Police said complainant Asutosh Das, owner of a mobile store, had sent a packet containing the mobile phones in a bus going to Balasore.
‘The accused heard the conversation between Das and the driver and stole the packet in the absence of the bus driver,’ said a police officer.
Das later lodged a police complaint with Saheed Nagar police station on 18 March and police arrested the accused, Rajesh Parida, a native of Bhadrak, after following up the threads.
‘The accused tried to dispose of the phones but failed to do so as all were brand new. Though Parida claimed to have committed the crime single handedly, we are trying to ascertain whether others were involved too,’ added the police official.
