Jeypore, October 24 (LocalWire): A vigilance court on Wednesday, here, sentenced a police officer to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for implicating a person in a false case and assaulting him in the police station.
The convict identified as Nalini Kanta Mohapatra when working as IIC of Bissamcuttack police station in Rayagada district in 2010 had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Radhakanta Das and threatened to implicate him in a false case if the later did not pay.
After complaints from Das, the anti-corruption wing had laid a trap and caught Mohapatra red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Subsequently, a case was registered followed by the charge-sheet against Mohapatra.
The Judge, Srikant Mishra ordered that Mohapatra undergoes five years of RI and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him, failing which he would have to undergo an additional six months jail term.
