Bhubaneswar, Sept 9 (LocalWire): Police have detained two people in connection with the mysterious death of a tribal woman and her two sons in Sighajharan village under Sadar police station on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna township in Kalahandi district.
The mutilated body of 32-year-old Bimala Majhi was found on Bhawanipatna-Junagarh rail tracks, about eight kilometers from Bhawanipatna town, while her two minor sons were found with their throats slit in their house.
‘We are yet to arrive at a definite conclusion whether it was a murder-suicide pact as it appears after preliminary investigations.
A blood-stained axe has been recovered from the deceased’s house.
We are not ruling out a murder angle too. We have detained two people, including a woman,’ Sadar police station inspector, Pradip Kumar Juria said.
‘Poverty might have been the reason that led the woman to take to such an extreme step.
However, we are further investigating to ascertain other angles,’ he added.
‘If murder is ascertained after autopsy then the case will be amended to Section 302 (murder) under Indian Penal Code, the police official concluded.
