Balasore, September 20 (LocalWire): The enforcement agencies have stepped up action in Balasore against the drug mafia after the arrest of SK Raja by the crime branch special task force (STF) in Bhubaneswar.
Raja, a resident of Arad bazar under Sahadevkhunta police station, was taken into custody by the STF in connection with the recent 300 gm haul in which two men (carriers) of Khurda district were arrested along with another peddler.
Based on the investigation the agency came to the conclusion that Raja was the mastermind and the Balasore Arad Bazar was the hub of the drug racket. He used to supply contraband to various places across the state and country.
According to sources, the district police head has formed a five-member team that is working to crack down the peddlers and their network, which is supported by some policepersons and few locals.
A senior police officer declining to divulge more on the issue said, “Yes, there are black sheep in our department who have a nexus with the mafia.”
During the raid at the Arad Bazar house of Raja, the enforcement team found that CCTV cameras had been installed in front of his house and the lane.
However, they could not access the DVR digital video recorder as the house was locked, a police officer informed.
The police further raided Raja’s other flats in the town and also took two of his cars into custody.
“We are planning to take possession of the immovable property and other assets of Raja through proper procedure. Even we want to access the DVR,” an officer said.
