Bhubaneswar, March 20 (LocalWire): The police here on Wednesday summoned state BJP vice president Sameer Mohnaty in connection with the letter controversy.
While Mohnaty has been asked to appear before the investigating officer on Thursday, notices were also served to party leaders Tankadhar Triapthy and Golak Mohapatra, seeking their personal appearance.
Police said that the leaders will be asked to reveal the source of the fake letter.
Last Monday, they had produced a letter, purported to be an assessment of the assembly constituencies by the state intelligence, advising BJD chief Naveen Patnaik not to fight polls from Hinjili, and recommended him to contest from Rourkela, Bijepur, Bolangir and Titlagarh.
Although the police had declared the letter as fake, the revelations at a press conference almost at once escalated into a major controversy. BJP had claimed that in the light of that letter, Patnaik decided to also contest from Bijepur, besides Hinjili.
The police later on registered a case after Bhubaneswar SP (special branch) Kartikeshwar Samal lodged a complaint over the alleged attempt to link the force with the letter controversy.
Reacting to the development, Mohanty had said, “The state police is acting on behalf of the BJD and this is a violation of Model Code of Conduct. We are ready to face the police.”
