Berhampur, October 9 (Local Wire) Police on Monday thwarted a trafficking attempt and rescued at least seven girls from Tumudibandh bus-stand in Kandhamal district who were about to be taken Kerala illegally.
Police detained a person of Kotagarh on charges of trafficking the girls, said Baba Saheb Saraf, the officer in charge, Tumudibandh police station
The rescued girls-most of them adults are from Kotagarh areas.
Child rights activists urged the local administration to conduct counseling to the parents of the rescued girls about the safety of the girls at the workplace outside the state.
“In most case, the girls were landed in trouble in the workplace as they have forced to work for more than ten hours,” said Sudhir Sabat, director, Childline, Berhampur.
He urged the police to take stringent action against traffickers of girls.
