Bhubaneswar, August 26 (LocalWire): The state police have decided to procure drones for effective traffic management and to keep tab on traffic rule violators in the capital city.
‘We have decided to use drones shortly for surveillance and traffic management. The drone surveillance had been put in place for crowd control and traffic management during Men’s World Cup Hockey last year. The experiment proved to be a success. Therefore, a decision regarding the drone system of traffic surveillance has been taken up. It will be implemented shortly,’ said a senior official of the city traffic wing.
The traffic route extending from Rabindra Mandap chowk to Airport chowk will now be a no-overtaking zone. Violators will be penalized under Odisha motor vehicle act and traffic rules, he added.
The major parts of the city are being covered under the Adaptive Traffic Signal Control (ATSC) or intelligent traffic system. Drones will give further facelift to the traffic control network and curb the rate of road accidents, they added.
