Jagatsinghpur, April 5 (LocalWire): Several candidates are now in a catch 22 situation after they resigned from their political parties and joined new ones in the hope of getting tickets from desired constituencies.
Former MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai who joined the BJP after resigning from the Congress in the hope of getting a ticket from the Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat, might face a setback since party leader Damodar Rout is lobbying for a woman candidate.
Tarai’s arch rival Rout who is now in the BJP camp strongly protested his demand for a ticket from JAgatsinghpur.
Tarai had got the Congress MLA ticket from Tirtol Assembly seat but quit the primary membership of the party expressing his discontent over the Congress leadership’s decision not to field him from Jagatsinghpur. He joined the BJP in the hope of contest from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat.
Local BJP leaders have strongly protested Tarai’s contention from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat for his continuous defection from parties.
They are sure he would not continue in the saffron party for long because he has joined it for his personal interest and not because he will look into the interest of the electorate.
They are wary of Tarai since he has constantly changed his political allegiance and has hopped from the CPI to the Congress and now at the last moment, the BJP only to seek the ticket from this seat.
Rout, too, warned the saffron party that he would not contest from the Balikuda Erasama Assembly seat if the party gave the Lok Sabha ticket to Tarai.
On the other hand, BJD leader and former panchyat samiti chairman of Erasama, Basanti Pradhan, tendered her resignation from the ruling party because she was denied a MP ticket from this seat. The BJD gave the ticket to sitting Tirtol MLA Rajshree Mallick instead.
Now, she cited discontent over BJD’s ticket distribution for not fielding her from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha and is lobbying to get the BJP party MP ticket from this seat.
Pradhan said ‘I have not yet joined the BJP after resigning from the BJD but I have decided to join the saffron party if they assure me to give the MP ticket from this seat.’ She added that since Rout has assured her that he will convince state and national level BJP leaders in favour of her, she was fully confident to get the BJP ticket from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat.
The local BJP leader Nrusingh Sahoo said, ‘Both Congress and BJD have fielded women MP candidates for this Lok Sabha seat so BJP should give a chance to their woman candidates to contest from this seat.
Rout has lobbied in favour of Pradhan as the woman candidate so she is most likely to get the saffron party’s MP ticket from this seat.
