Berhampur, April 10 (LocalWire): The polling parties, who were stopped from going to of Mohana (ST) Assembly constituency, for safety reasons, after police recovered two powerful landmines near Jhiliki, have rushed to their booths on Wednesday.
As many as 64 polling parties were detained at Mohana after recovery of landmines by the police.
‘We have received information that all the parties have reached the polling stations safely,’ said Gajapati Collector and district election officer, Anupam Saha.
‘After defusing the landmines, we conducted a thorough search in areas under the police stations of Mohana, RUdayagiri and Adava and then allowed the polling parties to move,’ said SP Gajapati, Sarah Sharma.
Police said the landmines that were recovered by the police, were fresh ones and planted by suspected Maoists to disrupt the elections. ‘We are keeping strict vigil on the situation, while police patrolling has been intensified in the area,’ Sharma said.
The CPI (Maoist) had called for poll boycott and also put up several posters and banners in different places of Kandhamal district.
