Paradip, Nov 23 (LocalWire) The Port Day was observed on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima on Friday by the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) authorities.
On this occasion, Paradip Port Trust chairman Rinkesh Roy unfurled the Paradip Port Flag at Wet Basin in the morning.
He performed the traditional Kalas Puja and handed over the sacred Kalas to the Sadhavas who set sail on board a traditionally decorated boat.
He also inspected the Port Marine crafts lined up in the Harbour and took salute.
Roy lauded the marine department for moving 27 vessels in 24 hours.
He informed Rs. 3,500 cr. port modernization programme is in full swing, which will result in capacity augmentation of 55-60 MMT over the existing capacity. On achieving this feat, Paradip Port will be the No. 1 in India in terms of cargo handling.
For providing safe drinking water to the local community, a Desalination Project, in consultation with National Institute of Ocean Technology, will be taken up and is expected to be commissioned by December 2019.
The PPT Board has also approved for 350 new quarters for the employees.
