Berhampur, Feb 11 (LocalWire) Police on Monday intensified patrolling following a case of robbery reported near Jayaparakash Nagara here, where three motor-bike-borne miscreants looted around 80 grams of gold ornaments from an aged couple, impersonating them as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers.
“We have launched patrolling near the areas to catch the culprits,” said a senior police officer.
“We had obtained the CCTV footage but no clue has been established so far,” said Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra.
He also requested people to refrain from entertaining such request by strangers.
Mishra said similar three loot cases by impostors were reported in the city in the last one month.
In Sunday’s case, police said, the miscreants, posing as CBI officers, convinced the couple to handover the gold ornaments as the central agency was conducting raids ahead of the road.
They also reportedly showed their identity cards as CBI officers.
Believing them, the couple, coming from Bhubaneswar, handed over the gold ornaments to them packed in a paper. As soon as they got the packet, the trio fled from the spot.
Realizing they have been robbed, the couple informed the police, sources said.
