Paradip, Dec 15 (LocalWire) After intervention of the Odisha government, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) authorities has taken steps for dredging of Mahanadi river mouth here at its own cost to avert siltation for smooth navigation of seaward fishing vessels.
Nearly Rs 15 crore is estimated to be spent for the project.
PPT chairman Rinkesh Roy informed nearly 50,000 fishermen have been affected due to non-dredging of Mahanadi river mouth since last 20 years.
Realizing it, PPT decided to dredge the Mahanadi mouth and all equipment, vessel and machinery required for the project have reached Paradip port.
“Dredging work will start within seven days and we are targeting to complete it by February,” said Roy.
