Bhubaneswar, Oct 4 (LocalWire): Noted Biju Dal (BJD) leader and serving Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy breathed his last today in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after his battle with Coronavirus.
The leader earlier had tested positive for the viral disease and later shifted on ventilator support after his health deteriorated.
He was 66-year-old and had a vast experience as a legislator from his constituency.
Maharathy was born on July 4, 1955 at Khorapada in Puri district.
He was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly from Pipili constituency in 1985, 1990, 2000, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.
He also served as the Agriculture minister and panchayati raj earlier during his tenure.
He was also the government deputy chief whip in 1990 and government chief whip in 2000.
Governor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other leaders have expressed their condolences on the demise of the serving MLA.
